Open Question: Is it illegal for your drivers license to be from a diff state than your license plates?

I have a missouri license and and illinois plates. I have heard from a lawyer that its a gray area and its not really illegal but not legal either...I was wondering if anyone else heard laws about this? I live in missouri but its just easier to keep the illinois plates...everything on my car is legit and legal, the states just dont match!! ANY THOUGHTS?? I just wanted to expand, that in the state of il you CAN in fact renew your plates with a MO drivers license as I have done it for the past 4 years! I have had il plates for 4 years and I figured that EVERYTIME I renew my plates with my MO license, they do not tell me anything!
